True to form, Trump uses woefully outdated and insecure email servers

Linq: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNextWeb/~3/VGOF0wxsIrE/
After slamming his rival Senator Hillary Clinton in the presidential race for using private email servers for official correspondence, it’s now come to light that Donald Trump’s inboxes aren’t up to scratch either. Sifting through publicly available records and information, security researcher Kevin Beaumont found that the Trump Organization’s mail servers for its hotels and other businesses run on an outdated version of Microsoft Windows Server software that’s no longer supported and offers minimal security as compared to more recently released options, reports Motherboard. Quick update on Trump corp email servers – all internet accessible, single factor auth, no MDM,…

Ecuador confirms it cut off Assange’s internet access to prevent him from derailing US elections

Linq: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNextWeb/~3/FFPvacDy5q8/
Earlier this week, Wikileaks claimed that its editor-in-chief Julian Assange’s internet access had been blocked by a ‘state party’ at the Embassy of Ecuador in London, where the asylum-seeker is currently holed up. The organization wasn’t bluffing: The government of Ecuador has now owned up doing so. In a statement obtained by Politico reporter Eric Geller, Ecuador noted that it had exercised its sovereign right to temporarily restrict access to some of its private communications network within its Embassy.” BREAKING: Ecuador admits it cut off Assange's internet due to his use of it to interfere in the U.S. election. pic.twitter.com/VNJ6sdHhHj…

Apple plans to unveil the 2016 MacBook Pro at October 27 event

Linq: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNextWeb/~3/6TmaNTY3RzE/
Apple’s rumored October event was on shaky ground. It’s the middle of the month, and the press still hadn’t received invitations, nor had anything been formally announced. According to Recode’s sources, we can all rest at ease; the event is October 27. After waiting what seems like a lifetime for even a marginal update to the MacBook Pro line, it seems the time is finally upon us. If rumors are true to form, we may see an entirely refreshed look for the laptop line, including a dynamic OLED bar atop the keyboard that changes key functions according to what application you’re using. Reports suggest…

Report: Amazon considering its own internet service to bundle with Prime

Linq: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNextWeb/~3/yUr15QYp12c/
According to a report from The Information (paywalled), Amazon is considering launching an internet offering to European customers, which it may bundle as part of Prime. Prime, the $99 subscription service, offers free two-day shipping for all subscribers as well as a handful of additional benefits, one of which is access to its considerable catalog of TV shows and films, including original content. Amazon has also been linked to talks of providing a cable-like experience with streaming television, much like PlayStation Vue, or Sling. It doesn’t seem the talks have made much headway. For now, you’ll just have to focus on…

Twitter isn’t worthless, but it’s now worth less than its Chinese clone Weibo

Linq: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNextWeb/~3/M5x-sno0DVA/
Twitter is going through some rough times, but it seems this isn’t quite the case with its Chinese competitor Weibo. Although the service launched merely as a Twitter clone, it has grown so much over the last years that it’s now worth more than the original itself. The Chinese micro-blogging service hit the impressive milestone yesterday when its market cap rose to $11.35 billion, slightly edging Twitter’s $11.34 billion. Since then, the gap has further widened after Twitter’s stock slipped further to $11.23 billion in comparison to Weibo’s valuation of $11.32 billion. What makes Weibo’s achievement even more impressive is that…

Hillary Clinton considered Bill Gates and Tim Cook for Vice President

Linq: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNextWeb/~3/9HGF_kBRsXY/
All-knowing commenters often tell tech reporters to stay out of politics, but this one we really can’t avoid. According to the most recent WikiLeaks hack on Hillary Clinton’s campaign, tech moguls as notable as Bill Gates and Tim Cook were considered as potential Vice Presidential candidates. As first reported by Gizmodo, the email was stolen from Clinton campaign chair, John Podesta, and includes a variety of politicians, military officers, and CEOs. Particularly notable to the techies out there are Tim Cook, Bill Gates, and Melinda Gates – Cook would have been the first openly gay vice president, and Melida Gates the first…

OP Delivers is a delightful 2D platformer inspired by Reddit’s culture

Linq: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNextWeb/~3/7BPwZNWccEY/
I love the Internet. I love memes. As a child of the Internet, this is my culture. This is what I grew up with. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that I’m really digging OP Delivers – a fun little 2D platformer inspired by the world of Reddit and Imgur. You play the eponymous OP. As the name suggests, your job is to deliver. Assisting you (and quite often hindering you) are a cabal of well-known characters from web culture. Scumbag Steve, Socially Awkward Penguin, and Overly Attached Girlfriend all show up at some point or other. Other familiar faces include astronaut Tim Peake,…

Facebook will now let Pages schedule Live Video

Linq: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNextWeb/~3/jZyTUFKq1jU/
Live video is great and all, but it’s not very useful if most of your audience doesn’t know when you’re planning on streaming. Facebook is addressing that problem by introducing official scheduling feature for Verified pages; users can be notified about videos up to a week in advance. To be clear, this only applies to Pages, not verified users. Still, it’s a welcome update: Publishers can schedule video in advance and build up hype for a video, essentially creating an audience before a stream even starts. It can potentially make the live video experience a bit more like watching live television. Of course,…
